History of Biarritz Airport
Almost completely destroyed by World War II bombardments, Biarritz Airport reopened in April 1954 and then officially became an international airport in 1977. Often refurbished due to the increase of its popularity among holidaymakers, the latest modernization work were done early 2019.
Biarritz Airport is located a few kilometres from the city centre and you will have a quick access to the magnificent beaches of the Bay of Biscay. Particularly appreciated by surfers, you can also go on the nearby golf courses, or reach the rock of the Virgin and the plateau of the Atalaye for breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean.
Feel free to visit the city of San Sebastian, a culinary centre in the Basque Country just 30 minutes by car from Biarritz; you will be able to try new flavours, such as pintxos, the Basque version of tapas.
Finally, AEROAFFAIRES recommends that you stay in one of the city’s many luxury hotels, such as the Hôtel du Palais, founded by Empress Eugénie in 1855.
