General description
In southern Finland, the capital Helsinki occupies a peninsula in the Gulf of Finland. Its central avenue, Mannerheimintie, includes various institutions including the national museum that traces the history of the country, from the Stone Age to the present day. It also has the imposing Parliament and the Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma. All of red brick, richly decorated, Ouspenski Cathedral overlooks the harbor.
