Key Benefits of Airbus A340

  • Long non-stop flight: up to 14 hours (approx. 13,000 to 16,000 km depending on variant), perfect for non-stop flights between the world’s major capitals.

  • Large capacity: suitable for government delegations, tours or incentives, with the option of carrying baggage and equipment in the hold (up to ~1,000 suitcases or 11 to 14 LD3 pallets).

  • Why are some operators still using the A340, despite its fouratrth engines?

The four-engine A340 is not subject to the ETOPS limitations imposed on twinjets (such as theA330 or B777). It can therefore operate on routes far from diversion airports, notably overAtl, Africa or the polar zones. For certain special or military flights, this strategic autonomy remains invaluable.

  • What's the difference between the A340-200, 300, 500 and 600 versions?

    • The A340-200 is the shortest, offering the greatest range but limited capacity (≈210 pax).

    • The A340-300 has been most widely operated on scheduled routes (≈250 to 290 pax), with a good range/capacity balance.

    • The A340-500 is designed for ultra-long-haul (up to 16,670 km), notably between continents non-stop.

    • The A340-600 is the longest civil aircraft ever built by Airbus: up to 370 passengers depending on configuration.

  • How many passengers can an A340 carry?

Depending on version and cabin layout (2 or 3 classes), an A340 can carry between 210 and 370 passengers. In a denser configuration (charters, Hajj, military transport), it can exceed 400 seats.

  • What type of mission is best suited to a classic A340?

The A340 is ideally suited to :

    • high-capacity long-haul flights (Europe, Latin America, Africa, Asia),

    • rapatriements and humanitarian flights,

    • hajj / Umrah operations,

    • government or military charters,

    • occasional charter flights for major events (sports, congresses, diplomatic events).
