Description of Learjet 40
The Learjet 40 private jet is a twin-engine jet, powered by Honeywell, with seating capacity for 6 passengers. It is manufactured by Bombardier and came into production in 2002 as a successor to the very well-regarded Learjet 45. Nevertheless, the Learjet 40 still manages to mark a step forward in terms of performance and comfort, making it a very attractive option for passengers flying medium-haul distances. It is, for example, considered to be an ideal light jet for travel in Europe as it has a maximum range of 3,250 km. It can also reach a top cruising speed of nearly 840 km/h.
The seats in the Learjet 40 are laid out with four in a club configuration and the remaining two facing forward. Passengers will find that there is increased legroom in the 40, giving the impression of flying in a larger jet. The overall goal of the Learjet 40 was to offer the comfort and performance of a mid-size jet but with the operating costs of a light jet and it more than delivers on this promise.

Learjet 40 A bit of history
The Learjet 40 made its maiden flight on 31 August 2002, marking a new milestone in the history of the Learjet range, renowned for its stylish, high-performance business jets. Developed by Bombardier Aerospace, this model was designed to succeed the Learjet 31A, while incorporating technological advances and significant improvements in terms of comfort and range.
Based on the Learjet 45 platform, the Learjet 40 features a shorter fuselage, optimised for short and medium-haul flights. It has been designed to offer a more economical and efficient alternative to business travellers looking for a fast, manoeuvrable and comfortable private jet.
Thanks to its two Honeywell TFE731-20AR engines, it is capable of reaching a cruising speed of around 860 km/h, with a range of 3,700 km, enabling it to connect key destinations such as Paris – Moscow or New York – Los Angeles non-stop. Its ability to operate from short runways makes it an ideal choice for accessing exclusive airports and bringing travellers closer to their final destination.
The Learjet 40 was officially certified by the FAA in 2003 and entered service shortly afterwards. It was then replaced in 2006 by the Learjet 40XR, an improved version offering better performance at altitude and a faster climb. Despite the end of production, the Learjet 40 remains a business jet appreciated for its reliability, cabin comfort and speed, and continues to be used by private operators and charter fleets around the world.
