Not everyone can afford a private jet. Owning one requires a considerable fortune. This is the case for many celebrities, singers, sports greats and world-famous businessmen. Roman Abramovich, for example, bought himself a Dreamliner. Here’s everything you need to know about the businessman and his new private jet.
For his air travel, Abramovich opted for a custom-built airliner, capable of flying very long distances to any destination.

Roman Abramovich’s private jet: a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner

Roman Abramovich is an immensely wealthy man, owner of yachts, villas – including one in France – and an impressive collection of cars.
He bought himself a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, for an estimated 231 million euros. After full customization, the bill would have exceeded $320 million.

Features of Roman Abramovich’s private jet

Abramovich’s Dreamliner was built in 2015 for the Swiss company Privateair, but the latter went bankrupt before the aircraft was delivered.

There are only 250 examples of this luxury aircraft in the world. Abramovich is therefore one of the privileged few to own one.
The aircraft can carry up to 50 passengers: 10 security guards, 10 crew and 30 guests.
It has a surface area of 224.4 m² and a range of 18,418 km.

The Dreamliner is considered to be one of the most technologically advanced aircraft in the world, equipped with genuine living spaces: a dining room that can accommodate a banquet, a cinema room, private bedrooms with king-size beds, and a vast bathroom with double washbasin, marble countertop and large walk-in shower.
Everything is designed to ensure that passengers can spend long hours in the air without boredom or discomfort.

In addition to its luxurious layout, the Dreamliner benefits from reduced cabin pressure thanks to technology that maintains a lower cabin altitude throughout the flight.
The advanced air filtration system ensures better oxygenation and optimum humidity levels, limiting fatigue and dehydration.

A plane in the image of Roman Abramovich

The Russian billionaire wanted an aircraft that resembled him.
The exterior livery is instantly recognizable: white, grey and brown lines, with oblique black stripes around the cockpit reminiscent of a mask, hence its nickname: “The Bandit”.
In terms of safety, the aircraft is equipped with a missile defense system, equivalent to that used by the US government.

The Dreamliner’s exact interior has not been revealed, but it is described as extremely refined and luxurious, in the image of its owner.

Why does Roman Abramovich need a private jet?

Former owner of English soccer club Chelsea FC, Roman Abramovich was forced to sell his team in 2022 following the war in Ukraine.
With a background in the Russian oil industry, he now owns a number of companies in England and divides his time between several countries.
A private jet enables him to move quickly between his various businesses, whether in London, Moscow or elsewhere.

But beyond professional reasons, there is also his personal life. Abramovich uses his plane to visit his family in Russia, or to go on vacation with his wife and seven children at his residences around the world.

For personalities at this level, discretion and security are absolute necessities.
Private flights offer them a protected, confidential space, while keeping them connected and productive during their travels.
