Bari-Palese Airport, also called Aeroporto Karol Wojtyla, is open to public, commercial, civil and military air traffic.
Located in the provinces of Barletta-Andria-Trani and Matera, 9 km northwest of the centre of Bari, it is the main airport in Puglia. It can accommodate aircraft of all sizes, including very light jets, airliners and cargo planes.

History of Bari-Palese Airport
- 1934 : the airport is officially born. It is dedicated to Prince Umberto of Savoy and its use is exclusively for military traffic. In the same year the airport opened to civil aviation and the first links with Rome, Venice, Ancona and Tirana were established.
- 1939 : the Savoia Marchetti aircraft is introduced, resulting in the adaptation of the main runway.
- 1947 : after the Second World War, civilian traffic resumes.
- 1951 : the new airport terminal is built.
- 1965/66 : the new control tower is built.
- 1966/68 : The runway is extended to 1,570m. It will be further extended in 2019 to 3,000m in length.
- 1967 : Design of the first extension to the new passenger terminal begins.
