History of Berlin Schönefeld Airport
Berlin Schönefeld Airport was founded in 1934. Its primary function was to support the production of the Henschel plant, which manufactured and stored nearly 14,000 aircrafts before and during the Second World War.
It was taken over by the Soviet army in 1947, which built a civilian airport there. After the fall of the Berlin Wall and the reunification of the city, it was decided to bring all air traffic together in a new airport, still under construction to this day.
