Bordeaux vineyards: a little history
The vineyards of Bordeaux are among the oldest and most prestigious in the world. The first vines were planted here in Roman times, but it was in the 12th century, with the marriage of Eleanor of Aquitaine and Henry II Plantagenet, that Bordeaux wines began to be exported en masse to England. Over the centuries, the terroirs became more structured, the appellations more clearly defined, and the international reputation of the crus classés became established, particularly after the imperial classification of 1855. Médoc, Graves, Sauternes or Saint-Émilion: each name evokes a style, a climate, a history, and above all, a know-how handed down from generation to generation.
