Inside the Avro RJ85
The cabin:
The configuration of the Avro RJ85 cabin depends on the airline using it. In general, the Avro RJ85 cabin accommodates a large number of passengers in a relatively small space.
The Avro RJ85 cabin is divided into two classes:
- business class
- economy class.
Economy class is the most common. It offers seats arranged in rows of two or three, with central aisles for access. Economy class seats are often arranged in a 2-3 configuration. Note that they offer limited storage space for cabin baggage.
The Avro RJ85’s business class generally offers greater space between seats. It is configured in rows of two seats on either side of the central aisle. Business class seats often offer additional conveniences. These include
- greater legroom
- a footrest
- a greater recline
- a seat-bed option.
Due to the relatively small size of the Avro RJ85, the cabin can be quite noisy in flight. This is particularly true when the aircraft is full.

The cockpit of the Avro RJ85 is designed to offer pilots excellent visibility. It is also ergonomically designed to facilitate decision-making and management of the aircraft’s systems.
The Avro RJ85 cockpit features an advanced glass cockpit. This is made up of multifunction screens. They display all the important flight information, including :
- speed
- altitude
- position
- weather
- aircraft systems.
The cockpit is designed to be easy to use. It has well laid-out controls and improved ergonomics for pilots.
The Avro RJ85’s flight management system is fully automated. Electronic flight control uses satellite navigation data and inertial navigation systems. This helps pilots to navigate in complete safety. Pilots also have access to advanced warning systems. This helps them monitor the aircraft’s performance and take decisions in an emergency.
Finally, the aircraft is equipped with a sophisticated communications system. Pilots can communicate easily with air traffic control and other crew members.
Overall, the cockpit of the Avro RJ85 is designed to be at the cutting edge of technology. It offers pilots a comfortable and safe working environment for regional flights.
