Bell 429 : introduction
The Bell 429: a reliable twin-engine helicopter designed for demanding tasks
In the tradition of professional helicopters designed by Bell, the Bell 429 stands out for its precision engineering and great versatility. A light, twin-engine helicopter, it has been designed to operate in dense urban areas as well as in isolated environments, with instrumentation calibrated for IFR flights.
Its spacious cabin, wide doors and intuitive avionics make it a popular choice for private transport, emergency medical services and public authorities alike.
Like the Bell 407 and Bell 505, the 429 continues the brand’s tradition of reliability and technical mastery – with particular attention to passenger comfort and crew operating flexibility.

Key Benefits of Bell 429
- A spacious, modular cabin: the Bell 429 boasts one of the largest cabins in its class, with 5.78 m³ of continuous interior space, including a 2.1 m³ rear compartment. This design optimizes every available centimeter: club seats for VIP configurations, stretcher in MEDEVAC version, integrated storage, multifunction consoles. Access is via some of the widest double-shell doors on the market, making it easy to board passengers or equipment, without contortions or compromises.
- On-board comfort and customizable finishes: in its Designer Series version, the Bell 429 offers top-of-the-range finishes: full-grain leathers, solid wood floors, brushed metal trim, indirect lighting, integrated USB ports. A choice of sober or contrasting ambiances is available, to suit your corporate image or personal needs. Acoustic comfort has also been taken into account: passengers enjoy a smooth, quiet and regular flight, with low vibration levels.
- Intelligent BasiX-Pro™ avionics system: the cockpit incorporates the 2nd-generation BasiX-Pro™ suite, designed specifically for twin-engine helicopters. Intuitive displays, critical data visible at a glance, compatibility with IFR operations and automated complex flight assistance (GA/CPL). The Bell 429 is capable of reacting to pilot disorientation, automatically restoring stability, maintaining attitude, and instantaneously coupling the flight. Enhanced safety, for operations with no margin for error.
- High performance, even in constrained environments: the Bell 429 maintains its performance even in difficult conditions: high altitude, high temperatures, reduced heli-surfaces. Thanks to its two PW-207D1 engines, its ability to land on yachts or building roofs is maintained without loss of stability. Its increased internal gross weight (up to 3,402 kg) enables it to carry more payload, without sacrificing speed or range. The optional retractable landing gear reduces in-flight drag and enables smoother manoeuvring on the ground.
- Operational versatility: the Bell 429 is one of the few aircraft capable of meeting the needs of a senior management team on the move, as well as those of an emergency medical transport, or a staff on a diplomatic mission. Its twin-engine configuration gives it access to restricted areas where single-engine aircraft cannot operate. It is certified for night flying and complex approaches, including on slopes. In short: a highly reliable work helicopter that can be configured as a strategic tool, a confidential space in flight, or a rapid projection vehicle.

Bell 429: a little history
Development of the Bell 429 began in the 2000s, against a backdrop of strong demand for a light, twin-engine helicopter certified for IFR flight, and capable of meeting the most stringent civil and health safety standards.
At the time, Bell was working with Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) to design an airframe that was more spacious than that of the Bell 427, while incorporating advanced flight technologies and modularity never before seen in this category.
The aircraft made its maiden flight in 2007. Two years later, in July 2009, it was certified by the FAA, Transport Canada and the EASA. The Bell 429 quickly established itself as a robust solution, adopted by a wide range of operators: private clinics, law enforcement agencies, government departments, regional airlines and high-level concierge services.
In 2011, an increased gross weight (IGW) version is introduced, raising the limit to 3,402 kg. This further enhances the versatility of the aircraft, which can now carry more payload without any impact on performance or range.
Today, the Bell 429 is in service in over 40 countries. Alongside the Bell 407 and Bell 505, it represents the American manufacturer’s commitment to offering reliable, adaptable helicopters capable of operating in environments as demanding as the medical world, government operations or high-end private transport.
