History of Basel Mulhouse Airport
Basel Airport was founded in 1920 in Sternenfeld. However, the construction of a power plant forced the airport to be moved in 1929. It was difficult to agree on the location of the new airfield and it was not until 1946 and the end of the Second World War that construction of the new airport began.
Since 1987, its full name has been EuroAirport Basel Mulhouse Freiburg. The airport was first divided into two parts: one part in France and one part in Switzerland. But in 2009 and Switzerland’s entry into the Schengen area, the buildings were brought together.
