History of Basel Mulhouse airport

Basel Airport was built in 1920 at Sternenfeld. However, the construction of a power station forced the airport to be moved in 1929. Agreement on the location of the new airfield proved elusive, and it was not until 1946 and the end of the Second World War that construction of the new airport began.

Since 1987, its full name has been EuroAirport Basel Mulhouse Freiburg. At first, the airport was split in two: one part in France and one part in Switzerland. But when Switzerland joined the Schengen area in 2009, the buildings were reunited.
