History of Faro Airport
Faro Airport opened its doors in 1966 to meet the growing demand from tourists wishing to visit the Algarve region. A new terminal had to be added in 1989.
From 2009 to 2013, the infrastructure and runway were expanded. Since 2015, new expansion work has been undertaken. The goal is to increase from 6 to 8 million passengers per year.
