History of London Luton Airport
Created in 1938, the airport, first named Luton Municipal Airport, was used as a base for the Royal Air Force during the Second World War. It then resumed its functions as a commercial airport and became the most profitable airport in the United Kingdom in 1972.
With the opening of an international terminal in 1990, the airport was strategically renamed London Luton. Indeed, although it is located quite far from the British capital, this new name underlines its proximity to the city, placing him on an equal footing with the other London airports.
