Location & access

Palma Airport is located in the southwest of the island of Mallorca, about 10 km from the city centre of Palma and El Arenal, and 60 km from Alcudia.

It takes about 15 minutes by car to reach Palma or El Arenal and about 45 minutes to get to Alcudia by the MA13.

History of Palma de Mallorca Airport

Created in 1920, Palma Airport was originally a simple field on which Balearic postal planes landed. It acquired a runway in 1938, when the army took control of it.

Following the Second World War, the airport was renovated and expanded. It reopened its doors to civil aviation in 1960 and was able to accommodate domestic and international flights. Two other terminals were built in 1965 and 1997. The second runway was built in 1974.
