History of Vienna Schwechat Airport

Opened in 1938, Vienna Schwechat Airport was first an Austrian air base, before being placed under British control after the Second World War. It became the main airport of Vienna in 1954 following its privatisation, and underwent numerous alterations until 1977.
In 2004, a VIP terminal was built away from the other buildings in order to accommodate private flights in complete discretion.
