Description of ATR 42
The ATR 42 private jet is a twin-turboprop regional jet developed by the ATR group that is very popular with many major airlines because it is reliable and cost-effective to operate, particularly in terms of fuel consumption.
The ATR-42 has capacity for between 40 and 48 passengers, depending on the version, to travel in a large, spacious cabin equipped with wide, comfortable seats. This is the ideal jet for transporting a larger group of passengers over short and medium distances in total comfort.
The aircraft has a large hold compartment meaning there is room for all passengers’ luggage. It is also possible to charter a cargo version if you want to transport freight.
Renting an ATR 42 private jet is a particularly budget-friendly option. The aircraft is very much in demand for both medium-haul journeys for groups of passengers as well as for cargo missions.
The most recent version was designed specifically to be more efficient and reliable while reducing operating and fuel costs. It features more powerful engines and top-of-the-range avionics in the cockpit for optimum navigation, communication and surveillance during flight.

ATR 42 A bit of history
To find out more about the Franco-Italian company ATR (Avions de Transport Régional) in the aviation world, you have to go back to 1982. This is the date that marks the beginning of this economic interest grouping that brings together two major European aircraft manufacturers: Airbus and Leonardo.
Like some of its competitor Bombardier’s models, ATR specialises in turboprop aircraft capable of carrying between 40 and 90 passengers. ATR’s aim is to produce aircraft that are economical, easy to manoeuvre and comfortable to fly. This led to the creation of the ATR 42 in its ATR 42-300 version, which made its first commercial flight in December 1985 for the airline Air Littoral. In 1989, the company announced that it had received more than 400 orders for this model of civil aircraft, which continued to be produced until 1996. Several versions were produced to make up the ATR fleet: ATR-320 then -500 and finally the current -600, which entered service in 2010. At the same time, ATR is developing new ranges of aircraft, such as cargo versions for transporting goods and versions, such as the ATM 42R, for military aviation. In 2019, ATR announced the development of a model designed for short take-offs and landings by 2022. Final assembly of the various aircraft takes place at the ATR site in Toulouse.
For the record, ATR announced at the 2011 Paris Air Show that it had booked 78 firm orders: a historic first!
