Jetfly Aviation is an airline based in Luxembourg. It specialises in business and private aviation. The private aviation company was founded in 1999. It was acquired in 2010 by two French employees. Its core business is shared ownership. A number of private individuals buy shares and can use a business aircraft dedicated to them. We explain Jetfly Aviation’s missions in more detail, as well as its history and its fleet of business jets. Take off now!

The history of Jetfly Aviation

The history of business aviation began in 1999 with the creation of Jetfly Aviation in Luxembourg. The company began operations with 3 types of aircraft, including the Socata TBM 700, a small 4-seat turboprop private jet. It will have 5 by the end of the year.

In 2003, the company expanded its fleet of aircraft to include its first Pilatus PC-12. By 2008, the fleet had grown to 10 private jets. Half of these are aircraft from the Swiss aircraft manufacturer Pilatus. That same year, the aeronautical company also obtained its AOC (Air Transport Certificate). This enabled it to move into the field of Public Passenger Transport (TP). Be careful to distinguish this from Private Transport.

In 2010, the Socata aircraft models were discontinued to leave more room for Pilatus operations, and the company entered a cruising phase that was more advantageous for it. The airline then added Pilatus aircraft to its fleet, which now numbers around ten. The following year, it placed a pre-order for 4 new aircraft from the Swiss manufacturer, the Pilatus PC-24. Encouraged by its expansion, Jetfly Aviation doubled its Pilatus fleet and by 2013 had some twenty aircraft at its helm.

2016 marked the 100,000th flight made by Jetfly since 1999. In addition, this year and next, the aviation company has decided to add three new Cessna Citation business jets to its fleet.

In 2018, after ordering Pilatus PC-24s, Jetfly Aviation finally received its first aircraft of this type. In 2019, the company acquired 2 aviation companies, Fly7 from Switzerland and Captain Jet from Luxembourg.

Finally, in 2020, Jetfly Aviation adds the new and improved version of the Pilatus PC-12, the Pilatus PC-12 NGX, to its fleet.

Jetfly Aviation key figures

Here are some key figures for the airline Jetfly:

  • 50: this is the number of aircraft Jetfly Aviation has. 40 are Pilatus PC-12s and 10 are Pilatus PC-24s.
  • 300: the number of employees at Jetfly Aviation Luxembourg.
  • 150: of all Jetfly Aviation employees, half, i.e. 150, are pilots.
  • 300: the number of co-owners who have opted for shared ownership at Jetfly Aviation.
  • 150,000: the number of flight hours fl own by the company since it was founded.

Jetfly Aviation’s shared ownership activity

Jetfly Aviation operates in the business aviation sector and provides private aircraft for flights. However, its main activity is shared ownership. So what is shared ownership? Quite simply, individuals or companies buy shares in a private jet. At Jetfly Aviation, these shares are in Pilatus PC-12 or Pilatus PC-24 private jets. As soon as you own a share in a private jet, you have access, like the other owners of the aircraft, to a guarantee on the availability of an aircraft in the Pilatus fleet when you wish to book a flight. When you opt for the shared ownership programme with Jetfly Aviation, your management and purchase contract is for a period of 10 years. However, you can stop this contract after 5 years. So, when you become the owner of a share of a private jet, you do so for 10 years, having made a single investment. In addition, depending on your business aviation needs, you make a commitment based on the number of flight hours estimated for your requirements. If your needs exceed 250 flight hours per year, you should consider the shared ownership solution.

The advantages of shared ownership with Jetfly Aviation?

The airline Jetfly Aviation offers you many advantages when you are part of the shared ownership programme. Like the 300 co-owners who have signed up with Jetfly, you have access to the full availability of a Pilatus for all your travels in Europe. A bit like owning your own aircraft, but managed by the company.

What’s more, if your aircraft is not at your point of departure, it will position itself from other destinations in order to reach your airport of departure. Unlike business aviation without shared ownership, the advantage is that the price does not include the cost of positioning or empty flights, which are covered by the company. You only incur costs for the hours you fly. Finally, your contract includes management of the aircraft, so maintenance costs, for example, are not your responsibility either.

Jetfly Aviation’s carbon offset project

At a time when transition and ecological issues are the order of the day, airlines are adopting carbon offsetting programmes to compensate for their flights. Jetfly, by opting for an almost total fleet of Pilatus aircraft, has opted for private jets with low CO2 emissions. By way of comparison, a Bombardier Global 6000 will emit 10 times more CO2 than a Pilatus PC-12, for example. With a fleet of 40 Pilatus PC-12s and 10 Pilatus PC-24s, Jetfly has one of the greenest fleets of private jets in Europe.

Jetfly also offers its customers the opportunity to make a financial contribution in the form of a ‘carbon credit’ when they book their private jet. This contribution is dedicated to supporting sustainable energy projects. In particular, Jetfly is supporting a reforestation project in the Cerrado savannah in Brazil. This savannah is renowned for its highly diverse fauna, but many animal species are vulnerable or even threatened. That’s why Jetfly is supporting a forestry project covering 1,055 hectares of land by reforesting this degraded forest at a later date. Over 1.7 million trees have since been planted. More than just ecological support, it also creates a number of job opportunities.

Jetfly Aviation’s fleet of business jets

As mentioned above, Jetfly Aviation has its own fleet of private jets. It owns 2 types of aircraft from the Swiss aircraft manufacturer Pilatus, namely 40 Pilatus PC-12s and 10 Pilatus PC-24s. It also has 3 Cessna Citations CJ3s available for other on-demand flights.

  • Pilatus PC-12: This private jet entered service in 1991. This aircraft from the Swiss aircraft manufacturer is a highly versatile private jet renowned for its reliability and efficiency on short flights (no long-haul flights). This business jet can be used for business, leisure and even air freight. In fact, its large cargo door can accommodate large items of luggage. Bicycles and skis, for example. It can also be used for medical repatriation and can accommodate a stretcher in its cabin. This private aircraft is a regional jet. It has a range of 2,750 km. This enables it to reach airports quickly in France and Europe over short and medium-haul distances. Pilatus aircraft can also access airports that are difficult to reach or have a short runway. They can land at Saint Tropez La Môle, Courchevel, Lausanne or Gstaad-Saanen, for example. Finally, 6 passengers (up to a maximum of 8) can be comfortably seated in the cabin.
  • Pilatus PC-24: This business jet model was launched in 2015, and offers all the advantages of the PC-12 and more. In particular, its range has been improved, and it can fly for up to 3,700 km. Like the PC-12, the PC-24 is machined for access to short and/or difficult landing strips. For example, without any runway surface. This private jet also features improvements to its cockpit to enhance flight comfort and safety. The Pilatus PC-24 can seat up to 11 passengers, but is usually used for flights with 6 to 8 passengers.
  • Citation CJ3: to complete its range of aircraft and diversify its offering, Jetfly Aviation offers 3 Citation CJ3 models for on-demand flights. This private jet is an economical, high-performance twin-engine aircraft. Its cabin is spacious, quiet and comfortable. It is ideal for short distances, with a flight range of 2,590 km. Last but not least, up to 7 passengers can be accommodated in a very comfortable and popular cabin.
