History of Amsterdam Airport
A military airbase was created in 1916 on the site of today’s Amsterdam airport. The airfield became civilian in 1920, and passenger traffic exploded in 1928 with the Olympic Games held in Amsterdam.
In 1963, 4 new runways were built, greatly increasing the airport’s capacity.
