History of Ajaccio Airport

The original name of the airport, “Campo dell’Oro”, is due to its location on the ground of the Bonaparte family. It was opened in 1961 and changed its name to “Napoleon Bonaparte Airport” in 2009, when it was taken over by the CCI of South Corsica.

Today, the airport has more than 1.5 million passengers and record nearly 34,000 movements each year. It is Corsica’s first airport in terms of passenger numbers.

Location & access

Ajaccio Airport is located 5 km from the city centre. It takes no more than 15 minutes to get to the city from the airport by car via the T21.

You want a vehicle with driver waiting for you on your arrival and driving you wherever you want? AEROAFFAIRES is in charge to book for you the most suitable car (Mercedes S-Class, VIANO or Limousine for instance).

Whether you dream of discovering Corsica in an unusual way or you need to get quickly to another destination, AEROAFFAIRES can also charter a helicopter that will be waiting for you as soon as you arrive at Ajaccio Airport.

Renting a helicopter can give you more flexibility and speed than regular tracks, and more comfort than some mountain roads. It is more often than we think  considered to be the best option, so feel free to ask us for more information.

For instance, it will take you:

  • 20 minutes by helicopter to or from Figari, compared to an average of 2 hours and 20 minutes by car
  • 20 minutes by helicopter from Porto-Vecchio, compared to 2 hours and 45 minutes by car
  • 25 minutes by helicopter from Calvi, compared to 3 hours by car
  • 30 minutes by helicopter from Bastia, compared to 2 hours and 40 minutes by car
