Commercial features of Atr 72

The latest version of the ATR 72 is the ATR 72-600 series, developed at the same time as the ATR 42-600. The main changes in this version compared with its predecessors concern: avionics (liquid-crystal displays, multi-function display); cabin layout: more comfort and quieter; slightly increased engine capacity. Passenger capacity is also increased: the aircraft goes from 74 to 78 seats. Crew numbers remain at 2. Finally, the ATR 72-600F is available exclusively for freight and cargo flights.

ATR 72: a little history

ATR, short for Avions de Transport Régional, is an economic interest group created in 1982 by the aircraft manufacturers Airbus and Leonardo. This Franco-Italian aircraft manufacturer specializes in the design of turboprop aircraft with carrying capacities ranging from 40 to 90 passengers, andhas a fleet of two main models of regional jets for civil aviation. The first of these isthe ATR 42 project. This aircraft is designed to be :

easy to handle
yet comfortable.

Its first flight took place in 1984. It was certified in 1985, and the first commercial flight was made that same year by the airline Air Littoral.

ATR then decided to design a range of longer aircraft, increasing the number of seats from 48 to 78. The first ATR 72 was born in 1989. Deliveries begin, and the first airline to use the aircraft is Finnish airline Finnair.

The ATR72: an airfreight version:

The model spawns a number of new versions to adapt to the market and different needs. Constantly evolving to meet greater needs, ATR is upgrading and renewing its fleet. The ATR 72 is also available in a cargo-only version, with a freight capacity of 75 m³. Major companies such as DHL, Fedex and UPS use this aircraft to transport their goods.
