Description of ATR 72

Learn more about the ATR-72, a highly adaptable turboprop

The ATR 72 is a twin turboprop plane regional aircraft developed on the basis of the ATR 42 by the French-Italian company ATR. It can carry 40 to 75 passengers over short and medium distances in its large and comfortable cabin and offers plenty of luggage storage space.

The commercial success of the ATR 72 is due to the fact that it is a very reliable and economical aircraft well suited to carrying both passengers and freight in its cargo version. Highly adaptable and customisable, these aircraft guarantee a safe flight in all types of conditions. They are also able to access a wide range of airports, including those with steep approaches, unpaved airfields, or short or narrow runways.

With a higher capacity, the ATR-72 is an extended version of the ATR-42. This aircraft is reliable and particularly suitable for carrying larger numbers of passengers on short or medium-haul flights.

Some key figures for the ATR72:

  • 1000: number of aircraft delivered in 2018.
  • 2: number of pilots required to fly the aircraft.
