History of Bruges-Ostend Airport
The airport of Bruges-Ostend has its origin in the airfield of Stene. During the First World War, the Stene airfield was used as a take-off and landing strip for military flights. This airport played a major role in the Battle of Britain. After the Second World War, due to the increase in air traffic, this airport was converted into an international airport.
On May 1, 2003, the airport established a connection with an airline to allow the development of passenger transport: the airline opened a connection between Ostend and London-Stansted, which was interrupted a few months later. It was with the opening of this connection that the airport was renamed: “Ostend-Bruges International Airport”.
