General description

Puerto Banus, the “Saint-Tropez of the Costa del Sol

Come and discover Puerto Banus, a luxury marina located in Marbella, a seaside resort on the Costa del Sol, in Spain. Puerto Banus is the summer destination where the international jet set meets. Indeed, you can see only luxury cars like Bugatti, Lamborghini, Ferrari, Bentley, Maserati and Porches. Every year, Puerto Banus attracts many wealthy families, thanks to its nautical facilities, its exceptional climate, and its luxurious infrastructures. Puerto Banus is positioned as one of the most luxurious nautical and tourist destinations in the world.

History of Puerto Banus

The origin of Puerto Banus goes back to the 60s. In 1966, its founder José Banus, a close friend of Franco, planned to build a residential area at the end of the beach of the Marbella Club Hotel, named Nueva Andalucia. José Banus met with architect Noldi Schleck, the architect and designer of the Beverly Hills neighborhood. This meeting gave José Banus the idea to build a more ambitious project with an international scope: the construction of an Andalusian village with a marina, with luxurious avenues and colorful gardens, right on the beach.

The inauguration of Puerto Banus took place in 1970 with more than 1700 guests, including the Prince of Monaco, Rainier III and Princess Grace of Monaco, Hugh Hefner and Roman Polanski. Since then, the most sought-after brands in the world have settled in this new “fashionable” destination. In its streets you can find Dior, Gucci, Bulgari, Versace and a bronze statue of a rhinoceros by the artist Salvador Dalí. Puerto Banús has also welcomed royalty, singers like Prince, Rod Stewart or Maria Callas and famous artists like Brigitte Bardot.
